We are pleased to announce that on June 15th we will be having a Sunset Shanty Cruise aboard the PT-Coupeville ferry, and at the landmark Keystone Cafe. if you would like to attend, all you have to do is show up at the PT ferry dock (we'll be walking on) at 5pm, and then we'll sing our way across to Keystone, eat-drink-and-be-merry at the Keystone cafe, and then sing our way back on the 7.30 or 9.10pm ferry, depending how things go.
What a way to spend a wonderful balmy evening! Hope to see you all there.

The Shanty Sing goes on vacation

Don't miss our last scheduled Shanty Sing of the year

Our song leaders this month will be Matt Moeller and Tugboat Bromberg.

And we have moved the event to the Second Tuesday, so this month it will be on April 11th, from 6-8pm at the Maritime Center, Port Townsend. (431 Water Street.)

This will be our last scheduled Shanty Sing of the year. The event will be taking a break for a while.

So, don't miss it! We hope to see you there.

Dano Quinn to lead our March Shanty Sing!

Our song leader this month is the award-winning Dano Quinn, who writes and tells the greatest salty tales, and is a great shanty leader. Don't miss it...Dano is quite the character...you'll never hear stories like this anywhere else; stories that have won national awards.

Chris Roe to lead our Shanty Sing on February 8th

Seattle traditional singer and instrumentalist Chris Roe has been entertaining audiences in the Pacific Northwest since 1983. She was a founding member of the all-female chantey band Broadside, who has toured the west coast from Victoria to San Diego. Her strong interest in traditional music has led her through many a repertoire — songs from the US, Scotland, Ireland, England, France, and French-speaking Canada with a few original compositions for good measure. A concertina and button accordion player, she has joined talents over the years with a wide variety of other musicians, playing for dances as well as for listening audiences. Presiding over her own monthly pub sing for four years and facilitating other song sessions for well over 15 years, she has helped to foster participatory singing in the Seattle area, and she takes great pleasure and pride at uniting people in song.

Wayne Palsson to lead our Shanty Sing on January 11th

Wayne has been singing chanteys and maritime songs for over a decade, focusing on songs with rich tones reflecting the fishing and maritime trades.
Wayne is the host of Northwest Seaport’s Chantey Sing Series and sings in the local group "Strikes A Bell".
His own nautical experience on the high seas and local waters helps to anchor his interpretations of traditional chanteys, new and local sea songs, and even a few overlooked classics by Gilbert and Sullivan.

Whateverley Brothers to lead our November Shanty Sing

Leading our Shanty Sing in November will be The Whateverley Brothers. Not only are they extremely well known as a great shanty and folk band in the Northwest, but they are regulars to our Shanty Circle.

Sonia Frojen to lead our October 12th Shanty Sing!!!

Sonia Frojen came to Port Townsend through her job as a deckhand aboard Schooner Adventuress.  A 2 year stint in the San Juan Islands as a kayak guide, a sail down the coast into Baja aboard a private yacht, a short (year-long) stop in Sausalito as a canvas worker, and now School Program Coordinator and Licensed Captain at the Northwest Maritime Center are all experiences that have brought her to live and explore in Port Townsend year-round.  She and her dog Bella can be found on the various local beaches finding treasures and watching the passing scene...

Helen Gilbert to lead our August 10th Shanty Sing!!!

Helen hails from England where she developed a strong passion for the music of her ancestors...many of whom were miners, mariners and farm laborers...She particularly enjoys lending her accented vocals to stories of longing and hard times.

Helen has been an active member of the maritime singing community of the Pacific Northwest since settling here several years ago. In addition to being one of the founders of the Port Townsend Shanty Sing, she founded the monthly Seattle Pub Sing, is a frequent leader of the Northwest Seaport Chanty Sing, and is a regular performer at Northwest Folklife. She helped produce the book “Sing Shanties & Songs About the Sea” in remembrance of local Shantyman Steve Lewis and his extensive collection of Shanties and Maritime songs. She is a board member of the Maritime Folknet (http://maritimefolknet.org/board/) 

Helen is a member of the very popular Seattle band The Drunken Maidens, who will be performing at the Port Gamble Maritime Music Festival on Aug 13th (http://www.thedrunkenmaidens.com/the-maidens.html).

Cap'n Matt Moeller to lead the June 8th Shanty Sing!!!

Matthew Moeller (aka Cap’n Matt), sailor, chantyman, songwriter and writer, is a  third generation resident of the Salish Sea region. Widely known as a singer and folk musician, he is semi-retired from performing and lives in Olympia, WA with his his wife, the Lovely Lanita, and Zoe – The Cat.

Yes, Port Townsend's very own shanty band will be leading the session this month, singing some Rollicking Roaring Shanties, and facilitating the song circle. Should be a load of fun...I've heard that this crew is "world class"! Don't miss it.

Nelson's Blood to sing Rollicking Roaring Shanties at Candlelight Concert
